Welcome

Ms. Concepcion & Ms. Moore-Jenkins welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked them for making time to participate in this community event.

Item #1 LEARN & KARE – KELSO KG – 5 program. K-3 / Ms. Van Sickle & 4th -8th /Ms. Timmons.

LEARN & KARE has been adopted as a school wide program to encourage responsible behavior and positive choices. Small problems are encouraged to be worked out among classmates. Big problems need adult intervention. The SAFE Program is a comprehensive guidance program, promoting the development of the LEARN & KARE program.

Item #2 Nurses Fund

Ms. Concepcion shared that the Health Central Foundation may no longer participate in the School Nurse program.Windy Ridge has fundraising as a way to help pay the quarterly cost to have a nurse on campus ($17,000.00 per school year) This is not included in our school budget, but the responsibility falls to the school. OCPS will only pay for a health room assistant. PTA may help provide fundraising ideas and resources.

Item #3 Backpack Flyers

Businesses that are Partners in education with Windy Ridge may send home a flyer to let our community know about a program or an offer that they are promoting. Many local businesses call on us to send home there flyer, administration limits the backpack flyer to partners.

  • Travelers Insurance has grants available for education ( Mary Beth Smooth)
  • Babblefish.com is a translation website

Item #4 & #6 Committee Work & SAC Survey

Several committees help shape the community , we have SAC - composed of teachers, staff, parents and partners. ( SAC survey send home with progress report). It was suggested that the SAC survey be placed on our school website. Administration will look into the technical aspect of this.

Item #5 Volunteer Survey

The volunteer community finds the e-mail system helpful and an inquiry was made about adding hyperlink compatibility . Administration will Look into the technical end of an additional volunteer survey to be added to our website.

Additional Items of Discussion

The school newsletter “ Silver Hawk Chronicles” will be mailed home very soon. Please give us your feedback on it. The newsletter will be mailed home ( 1 per family), additional copies will be available at the publishers website. Your input is wanted for our new newsletter, suggestions, comments or questions are welcome. Please send them to Christina.lupo@ocps.net by February 10th , 2008.

Coffee notes are on the school website. Positive comments were made about the new school website. Parents like the new design and it seems to be more user-friendly.

Middles School Magnet / Meeting date and time TBA . Look for information to be sent home. The class size reduction may affect the class size and place additional limitations on enrollment.
