Welcome

Mrs. Concepcion welcomed all to the first coffee of the school year. Welcomed and acknowledged new parents to the coffee. Mentioned that we have in influx of new parents to both PTA and SAC .

Item #1 on the Agenda – Progress Book ( overview of discussion)

  • Log in information (do not change)
  • Case Sensitive
  • Please notify school if grade are not available
  • Teachers enter grades twice a week
  • Training will be ongoing for teachers & staff
  • Parental support is encouraged and welcomed to support this communication tool
  • Any missing data from individual sights must be addressed early
  • Any question regarding this Progress Book are to be addressed to Mr. Caracara.

Item #2 on the Agenda – The Literacy Parade – October 31st 2007

  • Time of parade: 9:15am – 9:30am
  • The parade will take place at the track
  • KG – 5th grade will be participating
  • The theme will be a book that the entire class is reading
  • Students & teachers will dress in costumes that connect with the theme of the book.
  • If we have rain the parade will be moved indoors.
  • Concerns were brought up regarding Middle Schools involvement in the parade.
  • WR being a K-8 school should include MS students that want to participate.
  • MS students that want to participate will be responsible for the theme and costume ( pending teaching approval)
  • MS students that are part of the student assistant program could participate with the classroom that they assist in.
  • Any changes and decisions that are made for MS will be looked at for next year.

Item #3 on the Agenda – LEARN & KARE

The program was described by Mrs. Concepcion, ( Listens Attentively, Eagerly participates, Acts with safety in mind, Responsible choices, Nice manners – Keeps A Respectful Environment ) students are recognized by a Learn & Kare certificate. LEAR & KARE will also be part of the student recognition program. Up to 5 students will be recognized per nine weeks. LEARN & KARE is based on the Six Pillars of Character. This is a program that will cycle through the year, reinforcing good behavior. Mrs. Concepcion introduced the K-1 rubric and the 2nd -8th grade rubric. It was brought up that maybe more categories could be added.

The Parking Lot

Items are posted on a sheet of paper in the back of the café for Mrs. Concepcion to address at a later time:

  • Expand and alter the LEAR & KARE program
  • School E-mail list to be sent home for all teachers (FYI – the list will be included in the school directory and school web site)
  • When will sunshine Math begin?
  • Class parties: can we serve food , ie pizza?
  • Find ways to connect the MS with the elementary kids. More interaction , mentors, reading buddies
